| Grannie Linda has made many, many baby sweaters over
the years! There is nothing like being a Grannie!
Over the years she developed this chart so that she
could make a baby sweater in small sizes using yarns of differing weights
of yarn.
Along the top of the chart is numbers that indicate the
gauge you are knitting with. This is the number of stitches PER INCH! If
you cannot get exactly one of the gauges, try using a smaller or larger
size set of knitting needles.
The second column indicates the size of the sweater.
Some gauges will list 12 and 18 month sizes, and some will also list a 6
month size. The first size in the column will be listed vertically with
the following sizes in parenthesis.
(This is where 'sticky notes' come in handy!)
Along the side of the the chart is the basic
instructions and each step of the sweater you want to make. Decide which
style you want; drop sleeve or set in sleeve, and if you are making the
sweater for a boy or girl. You can circle the numbers that apply to the
sweater you want to make, or use a hi-lighting marker!
The hood is optional, but can provide some extra warmth
on a cold day and a hood isn't lost as easily as a hat!
You may copy the chart and use it as much as you like,
as long as (like the sock charts) you don't
sell it!
Have fun! Find some fun yarn you really like and let
your creative juices flow!
