Siskiyou Golden Fair
August 11-15
Yreka, California

The NCWGA National Show 2010 will be hosted at the Siskiyou Golden Fair in Yreka, CA. Yreka is located at the top of the state and is a convenient midpoint for members traveling from either the north or south. The Golden Fairgrounds are located right off Interstate 5 for easy access. The Siskiyou Golden Fair is a traditional, family-friendly county fair. Our show committee is working hard to make this an enjoyable event and we hope to see you here.

Barns will be available for arrivals Tuesday to Wednesday, August 10 - 11. The National Show's Senior Sheep Show and Wool Show will be held on Thursday, August 12. The Junior Sheep Show will be on Friday, August 13. On Friday night we will hold the NCWGA Annual Meeting, Dinner, and Awards Presentation. On Saturday, August 14 there will be educational demonstrations and talks of interest to members.

All exhibitors in the National Show must be NCWGA members and the animals must be registered with the NCWGA. Entries are to be made through the Siskiyou Golden Fair. The exhibitor's handbook should be available online in early May at www.sisqfair.com. Space may be limited, so please enter early. The deadline for receipt of entries is July 16 by 5:00 pm.

There will be four Divisions offered for the Senior and Junior Sheep Shows and the Wool Show (Fine, Medium, Long, and Coarse Wools). However, Divisions may be combined if entries are not sufficient. There will also be special classes for hand-spun yarn and for garments made with natural colored fibers in the Clothing and Textile Division. These entries will be displayed adjacent to the fleeces in the Wool Show.

We are currently working on the judge's contract and as soon as it is finalized, the information will be posted to the website.

Our NCWGA dinner will be at the Yreka Elk's Lodge. Tri-tip steak and chicken will be served. Expense for dinner will be $15.00 per person. RSVP by August 1 to Greta Hockaday at 530-459-3036 or email at mommahockaday@sbcglobal.net.

Accommodations can be arranged through the following sources:

  • Siskiyou Golden Fair: RV and tents spaces at fairgrounds, $75 for August 11-15. 530 842 2767
  • Waiiaka Trailer Haven: RV spaces next to fairgrounds. waiiakatlrhaven@webtv.net, 530 842 4500
  • Yreka Chamber of Commerce: Local accommodations listed in member directory at www.yrekachamber.com, 530 842 1649

Junior exhibitors are encouraged to create an educational exhibit for display. Judging of the exhibits will be based on the following criteria:

  • Education and Information Content: Subject should be an aspect of the sheep or wool industry, both interesting and comprehensible to the general public.
  • General Appearance: Exhibit should be attractive and pleasing to eye, lettering neat and easy to read.
  • Creative: Additional features that are novel or attract attention.

All displays should include the name of the exhibitor. The form of presentation is up to the individual, but the display must fit within the exhibitor's pen area. Cash and prize awards for junior exhibitors will be presented at the Annual Meeting and Dinner.

For further information or to contribute donations, please contact Show Chairperson Ann Robinson at robinsonhaven@hotmail.com or 530-459-5051 (leave a message, will return calls in evenings).
