| A note about double knitting
from Grannie Linda: There is a great
video
of the double knitting technique by
Amy Finlay.
She gives a great heart-motif
reversable hot pad
pattern to try!
Loraine Whitford has
developed BEEEAAUUTIFUL double knit afghan patterns! Grannie Linda has
made TWO and they are wonderful!
I will include a few pictures
here as to how I hold the yarn.
Happy Knitting!

A DOUBLE KNIT AFGHAN, BASED ON A
LORAINE WHITFORD DESIGN, THAT GRANNIE LINDA JUST FINISHED!!! |

I hold both strands at one time.
This way I can knit the front color and, with a shift of my hand,
immediately purl the opposite color! |

Both strands go over my index
finger, which remains straight and in the air for a tension gauge. |
 |
Sometimes I wrap one color,
only, around my pinky (before it goes over my index finger) and the other
strand around my two middle fingers, then over the index. It is a bit
tricky to "thread" your hand, but it pays off by speeding up the double
knitting process and managing yarn tangles!
With more practice I began to wrap
only one strand around my pinky, then the other strand just around my two
middle fingers, then both over the top of my index finger as shown!
