WEAVING THE TOE
HALF OF YOUR STITCHES
ARE ONE ONE NEEDLE AND HALF ARE ON THE OTHER NEEDLE. YOU HOLD THEM
PARALLEL. (MAKE SURE THE WRONG SIDES OF YOUR SOCK ARE TOGETHER –
meaning the sock is right-side out).
Cut your yarn with enough of a tail to weave with (about 14 – 16
inches). Thread it into a blunt tapestry needle.
USE THE “KITCHENER
STITCH”. To get you started, put your tapestry needle through the first
stitch on the first needle as if to purl (leave it on the needle), then
through the first stitch on the back needle as if to knit (leave it on the
needle).
Now you will do the
weaving:
**Insert your
tapestry needle through the first stitch on the front needle as if to knit
(up), lift the stitch off the knitting needle with the tip of your
tapestry needle, then immediately insert the tapestry needle through the
second stitch on the first needle as if to purl (down). If you do this in
one continuous motion, you can then pull the excess yarn through both
stitches at once.
Now on the back
needle, insert your tapestry needle through the first stitch as if to purl
(down), and lift it off. Immediately insert your tapestry needle into the
second stitch on the back needle as if to knit (up), and leave it on the
needle. Draw your yarn through and go back to the front needle and repeat
from ** until you are across the top of the sock.
When you get to the
end, just put the tapestry needle through the last front stitch as if you
would knit it and then through the last back stitch as if you would purl
it. Take out the knitting needles and poke the tapestry needle down and
draw it to the inside of the sock, where you can finish off and weave in
the end.
--- AND
REMEMEBER --- :
****You are working a
series of two stitches at a time (except the beginning stitch, where you
work the last of the series, and the end stitch, where you work the first
of the series!)****
****Always lift of
the first stitch and IMMEDIATELY put your tapestry needle into the second
stitch, THEN draw the yarn through.****
****When you are
weaving the sock, on the front needle, the knit side is facing you,
so you know that you need to work the tapestry needle as if to KNIT,
first.****
****On the back
needle, the purl side of the work is facing you, so you know you
have to work the tapestry needle as if to PURL, first.****
****ALWAYS SLIP YOUR
FIRST STITCH OFF AFTER WORKING IT AND LEAVE THE SECOND STITCH ON!*****
****DON’T PULL TOO
TIGHT!!!******

(Knit side facing –
the front needle) KNIT
AND OFF, PURL.
(Purl side facing –
the back needle) PURL AND
OFF, KNIT. It’s that simple.
